My name is Darla Jones. My husband Steve and I live Youngsville, North Carolina on a small homestead where we have spent over 20 years raising animals, food and kids! As an educational specialist, my passion and focus, for many years, has been the development and education of our five children. Along my journey, I have immersed myself in finding the best ways to help children learn. I am currently in my 18th year of home schooling, and am graduating my 4th kiddo this year!! Throughout the years, have encountered many of the challenges that can make learning difficult for students, some were the same challenges I experienced myself as a child with dyslexia. In my quest to overcome my own struggles as a teacher with dyslexia, as well as help children I meet on the way, I came across Equipping Minds Cognitive Development Curriculum.
The question many are asking in this culture is, are there tools that will help my struggling brain!? Is there a way to help children and adults better connect and engage in the work around them? Whether it is in the classroom, workplace, or home, cognitive challenges can permeate every area of our lives. Here at Marbles and Minds, we addressed this daily as we implement Equipping Minds Cognitive Therapy. So many of us have tried accommodations, tutoring, medication, and anyone's pick of the many therapies available. However, interventions like these are done mostly in isolation and usually only once or twice a week. While some improvement is seen, there is evidence that cross-training the brain in many areas, five to seven days a week, up to 60 minutes a day, over three to six months, allows the neuropathways to connect. We know that physical, cognitive, behavioral, and relational skills developed together rather than in isolation. The best results are found when a person is treated through a multidisciplinary approach. Providing a holistic application to target challenge areas and build upon strengths, we see increases in confidence, social skills, self-regulation, communication skills, memory skills, comprehension, processing skills, and relational skills.
This curriculum helps all ages from 3 to 93. May I invite you along on a journey that will bring possibilities you never expected.
